What is a JFIF file?

JFIF stands for JPEG File Interchange Format. A .jfif file is an ordinary JPEG photo with a different extension. Windows often saves images from the web as .jfif, which is why the file may not open in an app or upload form that only lists .jpg.

Because JFIF is JPEG, converting it to PDF doesn't need to change the image. PDFVerge places the original JPEG data straight into the PDF, so the result looks exactly like your file. It also reads the print size stored in the image: a document scanned at 300 DPI becomes a page of the same physical size when you choose Match each image.

Convert JFIF to PDF without a website

Rename the file from .jfif to .jpg and it opens anywhere a JPEG does. To make a PDF on Windows, open the image, press Ctrl+P and pick Microsoft Print to PDF. On a Mac, open it in Preview and choose File, then Export as PDF.

Limits

  • Up to 100 megapixels per image.
  • No fixed limit on the number of images; very large batches depend on your device's memory.

Your images may also be WebP or regular JPG files. JPG to PDF takes all of them, and Merge PDF joins the result with other PDFs.

JFIF to PDF questions

How do I convert JFIF to PDF?

Select your .jfif images, put them in order, choose a page size and click Build PDF. Download the PDF when it is ready.

Is a JFIF file the same as a JPG?

Yes, for practical purposes. JFIF is the standard way JPEG images are stored, and a .jfif file can be renamed to .jpg without changing anything inside it.

Why does my computer save images as JFIF?

Windows associates JPEG images with the .jfif extension on some systems, so pictures saved from a browser get that name. It is a setting in the Windows registry, not a different kind of image.
