Why convert MSG to PDF with PDFVerge
No Outlook needed
Open and convert .msg files on a Mac, a Chromebook, a phone or a PC without Office.
Rich text and HTML emails
Outlook stores many messages as rich text. They are converted back to their original formatting, not flattened to plain text.
Attachments kept
Every attachment is listed, and can be embedded in the PDF, including other emails attached as .msg files.
No tracking
Images hosted on the internet are not downloaded, so converting an email never tells the sender you opened it.
What a MSG file is
A .msg file is an email saved by Microsoft Outlook for Windows, for example by dragging a message from Outlook to your desktop or a folder. It holds the header, the message (often in Outlook's own rich text format) and the attachments. Only Outlook opens it properly, so a .msg file sent to someone on a Mac, a phone or a computer without Office is often unreadable. A PDF fixes that.
MSG or EML?
MSG | EML | |
|---|---|---|
Made by | Outlook for Windows | Gmail, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, Outlook on the web |
Format | Microsoft's own binary format | The open internet email standard |
Opens without Outlook | No | In most email programs |
Both convert the same way here, and the result looks the same.
Convert MSG to PDF without a website
If you have Outlook for Windows, double-click the .msg file, choose File, Print, select Microsoft Print to PDF as the printer and click Print. On a Mac or without Outlook there is no built-in way, which is what this tool is for. For emails still in your inbox, see how to save an email as a PDF.
Limits
- One email per file, up to 50 MB with its attachments.
- Images hosted on the internet are not loaded. Pictures sent inside the email are shown.
- Up to 40 MB of attachments can be embedded in the PDF; all of them are listed.
- Encrypted or rights-protected (IRM) messages can't be read.
Have a .eml file instead? Use EML to PDF. Putting a whole email thread in one file? Convert each message, then merge the PDFs.
Privacy: emails are converted on our server over an encrypted connection and deleted as soon as the PDF is sent back. Images hosted on the internet are never loaded, so tracking pixels can't report that the email was opened.

How do I convert a MSG file to PDF?
Select the .msg file, choose the paper size and whether to include the attachments, and click Convert to PDF. The PDF downloads in a few seconds.

Yes. This works in Safari or Chrome on a Mac, where Outlook .msg files usually can't be opened at all.

Images Outlook loaded from the internet are not downloaded here, for privacy, and fonts that only exist on your computer are replaced with close matches. The text, layout and inline pictures are kept.
Is MSG to PDF free?
Yes. There is no signup and no watermark.
